A Sunday Morning
I went to wonderful Jogi Talab on a Sunday. It was morning and the sky was clear. Sitting on the bank of the pond, I was enjoying nature. There was a small island in the middle of the pond where some people were sitting and fishing. Many types of birds were also sitting on the banks of the pond. I felt happy listening to their chirping sounds.
There is also a small temple at a slight elevation on the banks of the pond. I went there and prayed in the temple. The interesting thing was that along with the children, dogs, cats, chickens and rabbits were also living together in that complex! And there is also a small beautiful waterfall near the temple.
History of Jogi Pond
This beautiful Jogi Talab in Udaipur, which has a very ancient history – is truly a mysterious place. Jogi Talab is a lake located in the southern part of Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The lake is believed to be named after the jogis or ascetics who used to meditate in this area. When you reach here, you feel the natural beauty of peace and soul that this place once witnessed.
The size of the lake is approximately 100 acres and its maximum depth is approximately 30 feet. It is filled by rain and some water streams.
The lake is surrounded by hills and lush greenery. Jogi Talab was once a popular picnic spot, but in recent years it has fallen into neglect. However, the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) of Udaipur has initiated a project to restore the lake and its surroundings. The project includes the construction of a walkway around the lake, a children’s park and a boathouse.
UIT also plans to develop the area around the lake as a tourist destination. The restoration work on Jogi Pond is expected to be completed by 2023. Once the work is completed, the lake is expected to become a popular tourist destination once again. Below are some additional details about the history of Jogi Pond:
The lake was originally built to provide water to the surrounding villages. It was also used for irrigation and fishing. In the 19th century, this lake was used as a military base by the British.The lake was neglected in the 20th century and became overgrown with weeds.
UIT’s project to restore the lake began in 2017. The project is expected to cost approximately ₹200 million (US$2.6 million). The restoration work on Jogi Pond is expected to be completed by 2023. Once the work is completed, the lake is expected to become a popular tourist destination once again.

The best time to visit Jogi Talab is during or after monsoon season and through winters from October to March. During this time, the weather is pleasant and dry, making it ideal for spending time outdoors. There is also less crowd on the lake during these months.
If you are visiting during the summer months from April to June, the weather can be hot and humid. However, the lake is still a popular spot, especially during the evening when the temperatures cool down.
The monsoon season from July to September is also a good time to visit Jogi Talab. The lake is full of water and the surrounding hills are lush green. However, the weather can be unpredictable during this time, so it is important to be prepared for rain.
Here are some additional tips for visiting Jogi Talab:
Wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking. Bring a hat and sunscreen as the weather can be hot. Bring a camera to capture the beauty of the lake. Respect the environment and do not litter.
Travel Information
The easiest way to reach Jogi Talab is to arrive in the centre of Udaipur by train, bus or car and get to Delhi Gate which is the centre of the City. Jogi Talab is about 11 kilometers away from it. And then use taxi or autorickshaw from there. If you want to go by your own car, then you have to reach Balicha from Udaipur City via South Sardar Patel Marg and Govardhan Vilas Main Road. From here a narrow single road will take you to Jogi Talab.

A visit to Jogi Talab is a great way to enjoy unique natural beauty. Its history and its natural beauty will fill your mind with peace and tranquility. Enjoy a picnic here with your friends and family and enjoy the beauty. Please do not litter such places, especially plastic bottles and empty boxes of packaged food.
