In 1829, Colonel James Tod of the East India Company was overwhelmed by the beauty and charm of Udaipur; and called it “The Most Romantic City in the World”. The City has lived upto its reputation over the past many centuries. And even till date, Udaipur, India remains one of the most popular tourist attraction as well as the romantic and “Royal/Destination Wedding” venue.
Rao TS brings you a few select pics found in the web space:
Founded in 1559 by Udai Singh II the erstwhile ruler of the Mewar Kingdom , this historic city is known for luxurious royal palaces, castles, and forts. It is built around a number of interconnected beautiful artificial lakes, mainly the shimmering lake Pichhola.
Overlooking the lake is the monumental City Palace famed for its complex of fine palaces, courtyards, and lush gardens.
Over the horizon, all around, you will find purple and green mountain ridges of the “Aravalis”–as far as the eyes can see. What a soothing sight from the City of Love–Udaipur!
Udaipur boasts of super-delux luxury resorts and fine-dining experiences at par with the best in the world.
Beside fantastic palaces, there are numerous heritage “Havelis” (mansions) that dot the banks of Lake Pichhola.
Most of these Havelis have been converted into beautiful and cosy boutique hotels– offering princely stay– and almost of them have rooftop restaurants with splendid view of cityscape as well as the gorgeous evening. No other city in the world matches the romace of dazzling lights with waters here.
You can spend hours lounging in the balconies of these finely crafted heritage hotels around the Lake. At the sunset, the majestic City Palace turns into brilliant golden monument, reflecting the glory into the waters offering the most stunning view in the town.
A boat ride on the tranquil lake at this hour will transport you to the magical world–the land of chivalry and love; the setting is just perfect for the lovers in this city of romance.
The fragrance of desire floats over from the lake and engulfs the whole sleepy town as the night wears on.
There are many more reasons to call Udaipur the most romantic place on the planet; however let’s check out some more beautiful images I found on the web which show why the “lake city”, also called the “Venice of the East”; and flocked by the people, from all over the world, seeking romantic rendezvous.
