1. Jal Neti Act

Jal Neti is one of the easy acts of the six methods of Shatkarma (purification actions). Though a lay person may feel a bit apprehensive of this purification process but actually it is a very easy method. It is performed by filling lukewarm salted water in a special type of pot then pouring it through one nostril and draining out of the other side. Then repeat the same action from opposite direction. Watch the following You Tube Video to understand the complete process of Jal Neti:

Neti is mainly used for purification of the cranial and respiratory tract, the saline water removes toxins from the organs and destroys bacteria and viruses. It is specially relevant in the context of Corona virus infection, because the first symptoms arise from the respiratory system only. Those symptoms are runny nose, sneezing, flu and fever with a cold etc. Therefore, if we perform the action of Neti on regular basis, then our respiratory system will not be contaminated and the chances of infection will decrease to a great extent. That’s one of the three easy Yoga activities to prevent corona.

2. Kapalbhati Act

Kapalbhati is second one the thee  easy Yoga activities to prevent corona:  it is is also a method of Shatkarma in yoga. To perform Kapala Bhati act, sit in any meditation posture, sukhasana or in a chair while keeping the spine straight. After this, throw the breath out of both the nostrils as fast as possible by pushing the stomach inwardly with a force. Watch the following You Tube video to understand the full action:

Kapala means the forehead and Bhati is the glow resulting from the this purification process. Kapal Bhati is very energetic high level breathing exercise. Therefore,  by doing its regular practice diseases related to ‘Kafa Dos’ (phlegm) like: cold, flu, cough etc are removed. Also diseases of breathing do not occur and the immunity of these parts of the body increases. Due to the movement of breath through force, toxins, impure air etc. deposited inside the throat and lungs are pushed out.  Thus pure air enters the system resulting in the circulation of pure blood which increases the immunity of the lungs. With this process  neither the germs nor the virus can penetrate easily and grow there. Hence Kapalbhathi Kriya will prove to be very effective in avoiding the infection of Corona.

3. Bhastrika Pranayama

In Bhastrika Pranayama, the speed of breath becomes like a blower. That is why, this process of yogic breathing is called Bhastrika Pranayama.
Sit in Padmasana or Sukhasana, keep the body perfectly stable while keeping the waist, neck, back and spine straight and close the eyes and mouth. After this, the process of breathing through nose is to be done quickly with full concentration and rhythm without moving the body that is, fill the breath at a rapid pace while making sounds from both your nasal cavity and similarly exhale.
Watch and understand the detailed method in the following You Tube video:

There are many benefits of Bhastrika Pranayama, but talking  specially in the context of Corona Pandemic, this activity provides  high amount of oxygen to the body which purifies our blood, makes the lungs strong. And since Corona mainly infects the lungs, Bhastrika Pranayama provides protection from it. In addition, this Pranayama increases appetite thereby helping the speed of digestion. Also Asthma, TB and respiratory diseases are removed. The nervous system becomes strong, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are removed and digestive system, liver and kidney are massaged. By this activity, the body temperature rises due to which the toxins are released from the body.

Regular practice of the above mentioned actions has many physical, mental and spiritual benefits, but here we have only mentioned them in relation to protection from (CORONA / COVID-19).
Yoga activities are time tested and completely secular, they have no relation with religion, country, time or place. However, they should be practiced by following all the rules and precautions under the direction of a qualified guru.
